Carleton Campus Safety responded to a crash on Colonel By Drive on Jan. 24.

At about 1:30 a.m., campus safety arrived at the scene of the two-car collision off campus.

Ottawa police are investigating but have not laid charges, Const. Chuck Benoit said.

“Two vehicles involved were from taxi companies,” Benoit said. “The cause of the collision is still unknown, still under investigation.”

Both drivers were uninjured, according to police, and the cars caught fire once the drivers were outside their vehicles.

Campus safety communicated with residence staff to keep the smoke out of residences.

“[Officers] saw that the smoke was blowing or drifting in a north-east direction, so that would be directly towards some of our residence buildings,” said Mark Hargreaves, Campus Safety community liaison officer.

Residence staff were advised to ask students to close any open windows, and air intake to some residence buildings was shut off to minimize smoke intake.

Campus Safety said there have been no other incidents related to the crash.
