For “months to come,” construction workers will have their shovels in the ground of Carleton’s Campus Avenue for a water main replacement.
To keep buses passing through the university, four routes that normally drive along Campus Avenue have been re-routed until Aug. 28. This includes the 7 Carleton/St-Laurent, 10 Hurdman, 48 Carleton/Hurdman and 111 Baseline/Carleton.
All four routes will be detoured along University Drive and Daycare Roadway, with a relocated bus stop installed to accommodate these changes located on the other side of the O-Train Line 2 railway.
The temporary stop is across from the Carleton B stop on University Drive. Routes 7, 48 and 111 Carleton will be ending at this temporary stop.
The university noted that the Campus Avenue stops will be back in business before residence move-in and Fall orientation.
These transit changes are a result of the university’s watermain replacement project, which is part the university’s 2026 summer larger construction plans , designed to “support long-term safety and accessibility enhancements across campus.”
As construction continues, Campus Avenue is reduced to a single lane between Rideau House and Nicol Building. The road work is expected to continue into the beginning of the Fall semester.
The university said that drivers and pedestrians can still travel south, but are expected to experience delays.
OC Transpo advises passengers to allow for extra time for their travels.
