Carleton University’s automated convenience store Quick Eats is closed indefinitely due to “unforeseen maintenance issues,” according to the university’s dining services department.
In an emailed statement, the university said it is assessing the scope of the issue and is determining its next steps.
The university did not answer the Charlatan’s questions about what prompted the closure, including what specific maintenance issues Quick Eats is experiencing.
Quick Eats first opened in March 2024 and operates 24/7 without any staff.
Using the Hey Chef app, customers can purchase items like chocolate bars, chips and soft drinks and walk through the gates. It uses video tracking systems and an AI model to calculate purchases.
The university said that alternative food locations will still be available, and students will be informed of any updates as they become available.
