The University of Ottawa (U of O) is set to reopen a fully bilingual journalism program with a heavy focus on digital platforms and traditional methods of reporting, according to the university’s media release.

The program has been on hiatus since fall 2013, due to a reported lack of journalism courses and feeling of disconnect among students.

Students will be able to register for the new program starting in the fall 2015 semester, according to the release. The program will be offered in conjunction by U of O, Algonquin College, and La Cite Collégiale.

Students will learn about data journalism, geolocation and how to use quantitative data, as well as writing, accuracy, ethics and interview techniques, the release said.

“With an advisory committee made up of media and academic experts, we’ve put in the necessary effort to remake our journalism program” the release stated. “Not only to make it attractive for students, but so that it can also meet the labour market requirements of both Anglophone and Francophone media.”
