Two candidates have submitted their candidacy to be the Carleton University Students’ Association (CUSA) president.

Third-year environmental science student Raiden Dean and Mohamed “Faris” Riazudden, a fourth-year mechanical engineering student and CUSA’s current vice-president (student issues), will be facing off for the position, according to chief returning officer Connor Plante.

In addition to the two presidential candidates, 41 students are running for councillor positions, Plante said. There were four presidential candidates and 20 councillor candidates in last year’s general election

The official campaign period begins Monday, Jan. 30. The Charlatan will host a presidential candidates debate in collaboration with CKCU FM from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Nideyinàn (formerly the University Centre) atrium.

Undergraduate students may attend in-person or online through CUSA’s Facebook or YouTube livestream.

Students are invited to send questions for the candidates to news.charlatan@gmail.com or the Charlatan’s social media.

The campaign period runs from Jan. 30 to Feb. 9 at 5 p.m., when voting ends.
