Two Ottawa filmmakers’ take on a new project may leave the city with goosebumps.

Thomas Leroux and Greg Murphy recently created an eight-part horror web series on YouTube called Scream A Little Dream.

“Greg and I did it as a passion project. We are both fans of horror movies and we both wanted to get into making them, so this seemed like a great time to do it,” Leroux said.

Scream A Little Dream is an eight-part web series that was produced in Ottawa which follows two paranormal experts, who, after a series of supernatural attacks, realize they must find the source.

The two filmmakers said they casually came up with the idea one night that would later turn into their project.

“One Friday at Patty Boland’s Pub in the market, we were bouncing ideas back and forth and came up with the story idea that would eventually become Scream A Little Dream,” said Leroux.

The web series features professional actors from around the area.

Initially, the filmmakers were going to cast their friends, but on the advice of another friend, they put out a casting call with an overwhelming response.

“We were honestly surprised that so many actors wanted to come out for a volunteer project. Almost all our lead actors had previous acting experience,” Leroux said.

Being an indie film and lacking a multi-million dollar budget, people across Ottawa came to volunteer their time for all aspects of the film.

“I think one of the best things to come out of the project was a realization of how fantastic the people of Ottawa are. Every time we asked for help, a location – anything, people came out of the woodwork with enthusiasm,” Leroux said. “I think that speaks plenty to the nature of the people of Ottawa, and the excitement to being part of indie films.”

Scream A Little Dream has provided the filmmakers with a base for their film careers. Leroux said that it was a “fantastic learning opportunity” and will help them with future projects.
