Editorial: We shouldn’t need an app to figure out consent

Before it was pulled from app stores, the iOS and Android app Good2Go was designed as a way of making sure the other person is actually consenting to sexual relations.

One person would hand their phone to the other so they could choose one of three selections that would come up on the screen.

The person could either choose to say yes, no, or maybe, and there would be a separate question asking how intoxicated the person was. From there, the person would enter the name and contact information of their partner supposedly to make it safer.

Consent is essential to any sexual activity. While the app was intended to take out the guesswork, it actually made the issue more convoluted.

If you need an app to figure out whether or not someone wants to have consensual sex with you, you shouldn’t be engaging in sexual activity.

It’s as simple as that.

People shouldn’t need to fill out a question box—they both should know whether the other person is willing.

There is no grey area around consent. You either have it or you don’t.

Sexual activity is something that must be decided between consenting parties without using an app.
