CUSA gets another extension on health plan lawsuit

Carleton’s undergraduate student union is delaying their ongoing health plan lawsuit with their graduate counterparts.

The Carleton University Students’ Association (CUSA) did not meet the last deadline of Jan. 17 for filing a statement of defence.

CUSA has asked for a fourth extension until the end of this week, said Graduate Students’ Association (GSA) president Kelly Black.

The GSA’s legal counsel recommended that the fourth extension should be granted, Black said.

The GSA filed their case against CUSA more than two months ago, on Oct. 31.

According to their Membership Advisory, the GSA said they are hopeful that the process is not being stalled intentionally or for extra-judicial purposes.

“[The Board of Directors] has the expectation that the CUSA executive will take responsibility for their stewardship of the undergraduate student association,” the advisory stated.
