Men’s hockey team picks up two more big wins

After scoring five straight goals in the third period, the Carleton Ravens men’s hockey team staged a wild comeback in a 7-5 win Nov. 12 over the Nipissing Lakers at the Ice House.

The Ravens also captured a 3-2 overtime win against the Royal Military College Paladins on Remembrance Day in Kingston, Ont., resulting in a second straight perfect weekend for the team.

Basketball team splits season openers

The Carleton Ravens women’s basketball team split their first weekend of regular season play Nov. 11-12 with a win against the McMaster Marauders and a loss to the Brock Badgers.

Despite the team’s 81-69 victory over McMaster, the Ravens, who are now ranked fourth in the country, could have done much better, according to head coach Taffe Charles.

Injuries impacting Ravens’ depth

The Carleton Ravens women’s basketball team was missing two familiar faces when they kicked off their 2011-12 regular season campaign last weekend.

Both Jennifer Stoqua and Darcy Hawkins are on the injury list to start the season — something that has thrown a wrench into Ravens head coach Taffe Charles’s plans.

“I like to play with a lot of people and energy and you can’t do that if you don’t have a lot of bodies,” Charles said.

Ravens bested by Martlets in third straight loss

The Carleton Ravens women’s hockey team lost their third straight game Nov. 12, falling 4-1 to the McGill Martlets in Montreal.

Despite a 33-save performance by Eri Kiribuchi in her first start of the season, Carleton couldn’t fend off the defending Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) champions.

“They are probably one of the best puck moving teams in the CIS,” Ravens forward Victoria Gouge said. “They just move the puck so fast and they are getting their shots off so fast.”

Hockey teams using new tool to help prevent concussions

The Carleton Ravens hockey teams are sporting an odd-looking gadget on their helmets this year, but it’s one that could be an important tool in preventing concussions.
