Nadine Yousif: Editor-in-Chief

Born in the far land of Baghdad, Iraq, Nadine journeyed her way into Canada at the age of 10, and first graced the Charlatan news desk as a young 17-year-old. Now soon to be 20, she calls Ottawa her home, but everyone knows she really lives on the Charlatan couch. When she is not making news or breaking news, she can be found compulsively tweeting about the latest Kanye West single, drinking excessive amounts of black tea, front-row at Osheaga, reading poetry or the Globe and Mail, or hanging out at the local art gallery in which ever city she is. Nadine hopes to one day graduate J-School, travel the world while producing great journalism, and maybe one day get […]

Anna Sophia Vollmerhausen: News Editor

Anna Sophia Vollmerhausen is a fourth year journalism student, who strongly dislikes talking about herself in the third person. When she’s not waiting on sources to call her back, Anna Sophia likes to listen to music, play sports such as soccer and frisbee, and keep up to date on the latest rapper Twitter beefs. She started writing for the Charlatan in first year, and hasn’t looked back since. She’s super excited to be one half of the news team for Volume 46, and is ready for another year of breaking news and campus politics. After graduating from j-school, Anna Sophia hopes to put her BJ to good use as a news/sports reporter, either in Canada or abroad. Other life goals […]

Drew May: News Editor

Drew May is a fourth-year journalism student who was born and raised right here in Ottawa. He first started writing for the News section at the beginning of his second year and hasn’t looked back since. Drew loves hard news, student politics, and chasing down stories. When he’s not in the Charlatan office, you can find Drew either bingeing on Netflix or stuffing his face with Nanaimo bars, or both at the same time. Drew hopes to finish his last year in J-School with a fantastic News section in Volume 46 of the Charlatan. Ryley White: National Editor

Ryley White is a fourth-year journalism student from Brockville, Ontario. He’s written for virtually every section in the Charlatan at some point or another, though he credits National as the reason he began his career at the newspaper. He’s written for a few other publications as well, including University Affairs and Centretown News, the latter being a journalism student staple. You might see him at his desk working hard to find story ideas, communicating with writers, or creating a layout for his section. Other times he may just be creating a playlist on Spotify. He’s a wild card, and he knows it. If Ryley makes it to issue 30, he will become a living meme. Hometown: Brockville, Ont. Program: Fourth-year, journalism Email: […]

Sarah Tsounis: Features Editor

Sarah is a second-year journalism and communications student from the small town of Dundas, Ont. Since most people don’t know where Dundas is, Sarah tells people she is from Hamilton —it’s practically Hamilton, anyway. Sarah spent her first-year bouncing between Op/Ed and Features, enjoying the chance to express a few of her many opinions and investigate interesting topics for in-depth stories. Obviously, she settled on Features. When she’s not in the office (and not struggling to unlock the office door), you can find Sarah teaching swimming lessons at the YMCA, drooling over cute pictures of her dog, and doing some form of physical activity — swimming, running, and field hockey are her favourites.
