Michael Dennis, a full-time Carleton student and Ottawa poet, has been through his first year of university four times.

Now 50 years old, not much has changed, except now it’s his wife who asks him, "How was school today?" and not his mother.

On Oct. 3, Dennis launched his latest book of poetry, Coming Ashore On Fire, at The Manx Pub on Elgin Street.

I know this because I used to be one. Back in Grade 12, I devoted eight months of my life to drawing, shooting and editing the story of a psychedelic nun in New York City. By the end of it I had 30 seconds of jumpy, clumsy footage, mild carpal tunnel, and the knowledge that animation is a career for crazy people.
