The Carleton varsity fencing team started the season off strong, winning three gold medals Oct. 17-18 at the Queen’s University invitational in Kingston, Ont.

There were 14 Raven competitors in total, all of whom placed in the top 25 at the invitational.

The team itself came out on top in three of the five events, including both the men’s and women’s foil and the women’s sabre.

Kelleigh Ryan, a first-year arts master’s student, captured the women’s foil title with ease.

If one were to have bought a ticket to the Oct. 14 concert at the Ottawa Civic Centre it would have stated you were seeing the Silversun Pickups.

Little did the casual fan know, however, that they were in for a treat.

An Horse as well as Cage The Elephant delivered stellar sets more commonly associated with a headlining act, and not the opener.

It’s hard to imagine a band referred to “Toronto’s folk/pop darlings” would come from the Jane and Finch area of the city.

But Jane’s Party makes it known that they live “around” Jane and Finch, and they didn’t grow up there.

“We actually grew down there,” vocalist, key-player and guitarist, Jeff Giles said jokingly.

In that area, they also recorded their latest album, The Garage Sessions.

Grey hair, long hair or no hair at all, die hard Led Zeppelin fans poured into the Centrepointe Theatre to hear a Led Zeppelin cover band blast the classics Oct. 15.

The band kicked off the show with “Good Times, Bad Times” – and was met by a spontaneous uproar of applause.
