The Carleton men’s and women’s varsity water polo teams both defeated Queen’s University Oct. 7 at the Raven pool.

Queen’s was left treading water. The Ravens men’s team crushed Queen’s 24-4, and the Ravens women’s team was also successful with a final of 15-6.

A mere roster of 10, the men’s team proved that victory comes from the heart, not from the numbers.

Head coach Andras Szeri said he hadn’t planned on having such a short bench.

The Carleton men’s varsity soccer team lost both games in penalty shots this weekend, bringing their playoff season to a disappointing end. 

The team finished fourth in the post-season, after being defeated by the McMaster University Marauders 3-1 Nov. 7 and the University of Western Ontario Mustangs 3-2 the next day.

On Nov. 7, the Ravens played against the Marauders for a spot in the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) gold medal game.

The game was scoreless through regulation and overtime, leading to a shootout. 

The Carleton men’s varsity hockey team held onto a narrow 5-4 victory over the Nipissing University Lakers on Nov. 7, after a 4-1 victory against the Lakers the night before at the Ice House.

The Ravens opened the scoring in the first period when defenceman Mark Smith beat the Lakers goalie in the first five minutes. 

They doubled their lead by the end of the first period with centre Ryan Mendel scoring within seconds of the buzzer and putting Carleton up by two goals.

Carleton’s cross-town rivals, the University of Ottawa Gee-Gees, were dealt their second straight loss to the Ravens women’s hockey team in a 3-2 shootout victory Nov. 7 at the Ice House. 

In the opening period, both teams were held scoreless with Raven goalie Amanda Muhlig recording eight saves against the Gee-Gees. 

The Ravens came out strong in the second, with goals from defender Victoria Germuska and centre Claudia Bergeron, putting them two goals ahead at the end of the period.
