The University of Ottawa (U of O) announced the continued suspension of admissions for its journalism program for the 2014-15 school year.

Admissions will be frozen for the second year in a row after the university closed the program for 2013-14. It initially suspended the program after an external report determined several problems exist within it, including a lack of journalism courses and a sense of disconnect among students.

U of O’s journalism degree is a joint program involving two years of study at the university and two at Algonquin College or La Cité collégiale.

U of O spokesperson Caroline Milliard said a permanent decision regarding the program has not yet been made.

“The program in journalism is still under review and consequently there will be no registration for the fall 2014,” Milliard said via email. “A proposal will be presented to the Senate once the Department of Communications and the Faculty of Arts have made a decision on the program.”
