Kendra Murray has been a critical part of the Carleton Nordic ski team’s success over the past few years.
“She’s very talented and I would say mature as a competitor, and also just very nice and fun like most of the people on the team,” said Murray’s teammate Kyla Vanderzwet.
According to Vanderzwet, Murray enjoys doing some intense work.
Vanderzwet said Murray’s dedication to do whatever it takes to win is her best asset in the races.
“Pretty much every race she throws down, I was her teammate for the team relay and she did everything she could to get to the front of the pack. She does whatever she can to get the job done,” Vanderzwet said.
In the Ontario University Athletics finals, Murray won two golds, one for the 6.6-kilometre race and another for the 2 x 0.6 km free relay.
At the Canadian Eastern Championships, Murray won gold in the 10-kilometre women’s individual start freestyle event and gold in the 10-kilometre classic mass start race.
Vanderzwet said she doesn’t know exactly what Murray’s future holds as she will be leaving Carleton, but she does know that Nordic skiing will always be a part of her life.
“I know she plans to go back to Whitehorse, and they got some really great training going on there, and I know that she said she can’t just do skiing and that she wants to do something else, so like, a mix of work and high level skiing,” Vanderzwet said.
