A South Keys condominium board has postponed its annual general meeting in light of a petition started by tenant and student Nicholas McLeod.

Carleton Condominium Corporation No 24, which is responsible for 257 units on Southgate Road, passed a rule Oct. 20 to only allow single-family renters, effectively ruling out students.

The board was supposed to meet Nov. 22, but after McLeod gathered a number of signatures in protest of the ruling, the meeting was pushed to Dec. 6.

“I was outraged,” McLeod said.

In order to delay the ruling, McLeod needed to secure signatures from 15 per cent of the condo’s homeowners in 30 days.

To overturn the ban, at least 25 per cent of homeowners must attend the Dec. 6 meeting, and at least half of them must vote in favour, McLeod said.

McLeod said he’s confident his petition will be the answer student renters are looking for.

Lorne Anderson, the corporation’s president, could not be reached for comment.
