Rooster’s Coffeehouse has increased prices to deal with the rising cost of food, but the regular cup of coffee is hardly affected.
The increases vary between three and five per cent, Rod Castro, the Carleton University Students’ Association (CUSA) business operations manager said.
The increase applies mostly to menu items with dairy, eggs, and chicken, Rooster’s manager Ron Barrette said.
“It’s rather small compared to other years. It translates to maybe five cents on a hot beverage and maybe 15 or 20 cents on a food item,” Barrette said.
Over the last fiscal year, dairy and cheese products increased in price three separate times. In order to keep the business balanced, Barrette said he had to adjust prices now.
“If you’re operating a business you have to maintain a certain level of cost of goods. Once you start dipping under that you become unprofitable,” he said.
Rooster’s is run by CUSA, which had to approve the price changes.
Folarin Odunayo, CUSA vice-president (finance) said they try to keep prices at Rooster’s in line with the cost of food.
“We try to cope with such increases. This year we decided to make adjustments to go with the flow,” he said.
