Rob Mclennan launched his latest collection of poetry Sept. 24.

Mclennan is the author of some 20 trade books of poetry, fiction, and non-fiction. His most recent is an abstract poetry collection, If We Suppose We Are a Fragment.

According to Mclennan, who is newly-wed and a father of a 10-month-old, the title reflects the nature of a fragment. New relationships are about pieces slowly fitting into each other, he said.

He described the language as “a living, breathing, beautiful, messy thing.”

Mclennan said he is experiencing “an enormous shift . . . going from full days of work to half days, trading time with Christine until her maternity leave ends.”

But he said he still found time to finish this project and is working on others.

He said he is currently attempting to complete a manuscript of short stories, as well as a poetry collection—all the while dealing with “the uncertainty of naps and [his] own exhaustion.”

Mclennan said he is self-taught and encourages young writers to read as much and as widely as possible.

“Be open to ideas that may not make sense at first, or at all to anyone else,” he said. “Be patient.”
