A video of a motorcycle joyride through Carleton’s tunnels posted to YouTube on July 21 is now under investigation by Ottawa police.

The investigation began after a complaint from the university following their own inquiry into the incident, according to Const. Chuck Benoit.

The video, posted by YouTube user Logan M, is of someone riding a motorcycle through the tunnels at speeds reaching as high as 80 km/h.

It was taken down from YouTube by the user July 22.

Because the incident took place on private property, the charges the perpetrator could face are limited, Benoit said.

“There is only the criminal aspect of careless or dangerous driving that a person can receive on private property,” he said.

If he is found to be a Carleton student, there would also be consequences based on the university’s Charter of Rights and Responsibilities, according to Carleton media relations officer Steven Reid.

The sanctions he could face under the code of conduct include, but are not limited to, a suspension of his studies, a $500 fine, and up to 35 hours of community service, Reid said.

Benoit said that there are no suspects at this time.

Logan M’s YouTube page uses the username of “TheOriginalUberFetus.” The same name is also used by Logan Murphy, from Port Hope, Ont., on Facebook.

“I actually posted it for a friend,” Murphy told the Ottawa Citizen. “I cannot comment on whether or not it was me actually riding that motorcycle in the video. It could have been anyone.”

Campus security is a high priority for the university, Reid said. “We’ll be looking at ways we can improve it.”
