The Carleton Ravens men’s basketball team will advance to the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) Final Four championship after defeating the Laurentian Voyageurs in an 87-66 struggle Feb. 25 at the Ravens’ Nest.
After being tied at 18 points in the first quarter, the Ravens finished the first half with an eight-point lead. They couldn’t extend their lead beyond that in the third.
The Voyageurs couldn’t contain the Ravens’ offence in the fourth and final frame, though, when the home team increased their lead to 21 points.
Laurentian’s Manny Pasquale led both teams’ in scoring with 34 points, with a majority of them coming from three-point territory.
In particular, Pesquale was a challenge for fifth-year Ravens guard Cole Hobin, who ended the game with four personal fouls. Fifth-year guard Willy Manigat also had trouble containing him, finishing the game with four fouls of his own.
Second-year guard Philip Scrubb, the Ravens’ top scorer, put up 23 points, while his brother Thomas Scrubb and third-year forward Kevin Churchill each scored 15 points. Philip is currently the only Raven in the top 10 men’s basketball scorers in the OUA.
The Ravens will travel to the University of Waterloo for their next game, where they will tip-off against the McMaster Marauders in the OUA semifinal March 2.
