An Ottawa man was arrested in connection with a sexual assault Feb. 15, which occurred in one of the University of Ottawa (U of O) campus residence buildings located at 100 University Private.
Caroline Milliard, manager of media relations for U of O, said the university is “extremely concerned about the incident that occurred.”
A report of a male going room to room in the residence was what triggered police involvement, according to an Ottawa Police media release.
The release said the man was charged with one count of sexual assault and one count of break and enter, and that the suspect entered eight rooms, attempting to enter more than 50.
“The residential complex has a reception desk staffed 24/7, and evening and night access to residences is restricted to residents and their authorized visitors,” Milliard said, adding residences have “extra security in place on weekend evenings and nights.”
Milliard said security has been increased in response to this incident.
The man arrested was called a “young offender” by the media release, so none of his details have been made public. He has also been “released from custody on a Promise to Appear in court with conditions to protect the community,” according to the release.
“An investigation is ongoing and the university is collaborating with the Ottawa Police Service,” Milliard said.
