Aramark has hit a new low. This week while I was on campus for dinner, I decided to order vegetarian spring rolls and vegetarian chow mein at the new Spring Rolls in the Unicentre. In case you didn’t guess, I’m a vegetarian.

However, as I took a bite into my spring roll, I realized it had chicken in it. Then as I started to eat my chow mein, I realized there were multiple small pieces of beef mixed in.
I went and asked for my money back, which they gave to me with barely an apology. It was as if they had put mayo instead of sub sauce on my sandwich.

According to one of the cooks at Spring Rolls, I wasn’t the only one who had complained that day about finding meat in my vegetarian food. He told me that apparently several people had come to complain that meat had been mixed in with their vegetarian dishes.

For me, finding meat in my food was really angering. But it’s not the end of the world. For others, it might have been a much, much worse discovery. Whether it’s for environmental, ethical, or religious reasons, vegetarians deserve to be respected.

Seriously Aramark, it’s bad enough that you have a monopoly to serve us crappy food at ridiculous prices. But if you can’t even keep chunks of steak out of my veggie chow mein, what else are you screwing up on?

Please do not offer vegetarian options if you are going to sneak meat into them. And fellow vegetarians, I suggest you avoid Spring Rolls. Actually, I suggest everyone avoid it.
