Traffic going into Gatineau, Quebec via the Macdonald-Cartier Bridge came to halt.

Effective at noon on Wednesday, April 1st police officers from the Quebec provincial police–Sûreté du Québec–and officers from the Gatineau Police instituted a checkpoint along all 4 bridges in the Ottawa/Gatineau area.

According to the Government of Quebec, checkpoints were put in place around the Outaouais regions which includes the Ottawa/Gatineau bridges and were aimed at “limiting essential movements”.

Officers at the checkpoint asked all motorists why they were entering Quebec–people from Ontario who were entering Quebec for leisurely purposes were told to turn around and head back. In addition, officers were asking motorists if they had been diagnosed with Covid-19, recently traveled or experienced any symptoms.
