Vice-president (external) for Carleton’s Graduate Students’Association (GSA), Theo Hug, has resigned his position, citing personal matters. The GSA is now looking for a replacement candidate.
Hug was elected uncontested last year.
During his time with the GSA, Hug was instrumental in pushing for more gender neutral washrooms on campus, creating the Truth and Reconciliation Committee on campus, and creating more safe space on campus. Hug was also involved in protesting the Board of Governors’ tuition report last March.
According to the GSA website, nominations for a new vice-president should be submitted to the GSA office by Nov. 9.
Michael Bueckert, president of the GSA, said Hug was an important member of the executive.
“Theo has been an invaluable member of our team, and has played a great role in expanding the GSA’s equity campaigns and took the lead to increase student participation in the federal election, which was very effective,” Bueckert said.
Bueckert said Hug brought a unique perspective to the GSA, and his passion for ending transphobia, homophobia, and gender-based violence awareness will be missed.
