Grant Vassos is a third-year journalism student with hopes of making it big in the world of sports media one day. Born and raised in Oakville, Ont., he still wonders how his talents went unnoticed in the OHL Draft.

Ever since he laced up his first pair of skates, his love for the game of hockey has remained unmatched. From his humble beginnings in house league hockey, to earning his prized black belt in Karate at the age of 13—Grant enjoyed everything about life as an athlete.

Upon entering high school, Grant transitioned into running back for his school’s football team. He became a student of the game by learning route combinations and plays through playing the popular video game, NCAA 13. Yes, that’s a true story.

Since transitioning to university, Grant decided to make the leap into sports writing with the Charlatan. During his second year, he covered events such as last year’s Capital Hoops and the 2018 U SPORTS Men’s Basketball Championships in Halifax, NS.

On his time off, Grant likes to maintain a balanced diet of taking afternoon naps, road tripping to Laurier for St. Patty’s Day and watching his beloved Toronto Maple Leafs blow three-goal leads.
