Former Carleton University Ravens men’s basketball player Eddie Ekiyor, 22, was charged on Friday with sexual assault, kidnapping and overcoming resistance to commit an offence, according to a statement from Ottawa police.
The charges came after Ottawa police received a complaint about an alleged incident that occurred on April 7 in a Byward Market-area bar and the west end of Ottawa, according to the statement.
A 23-year-old woman told Ottawa police that Ekiyor met her at a bar in the market, “plied her with alcohol and drugs,” and then took her to a west end address where he allegedly sexually assaulted her, according to the statement.
Police said the woman was in and out of consciousness during the alleged assault, and was put in a taxi which drove her home.
Ekiyor played for the Carleton men’s basketball team from 2017 to 2019.
He was named MVP after the Ravens won the 2019 U Sports men’s basketball tournament in March. He was also named a First Team All-Canadian last season.
Ottawa police said they believe there might be additional victims, and urged anyone with information to contact them.
