Summer can be a surprisingly stressful time of year—especially when you’re a student trying to bring in and save that cash money flow.

When I can find a minute to myself, I like to use that precious time to rejuvenate. This simple DIY bath scrub is a wallet-friendly way to unwind and revitalize after a long day. It also makes for an awesome homemade gift as well!

What you’ll need:

Container and lid
Epsom or sea salt
Olive, almond, grape seed, or jojoba oil
Dried lavender leaves (optional)
Essential oil (optional)
1.) The first thing you’ll need to do is find a container to prepare and store the scrub in. I recommend something you don’t plan on using for food afterwards, since the oils can be difficult to wash out. I find mason jars do the trick.

2.) Once you’ve got a container, fill it roughly halfway with bath salt. Feel free to add more later if you’d like, but I find half to be a good starting point. You can find bags of generic, unscented Epsom or sea salt at a good dollar store or for under $10 at Shoppers Drug Mart.

3.) Next, take your prefered oil and fill the container until it’s about three-quarters full. Stir the salts and oil around until they’re thoroughly mixed together. After that, it’s up to your discretion whether you want to add more salt or oil.

4.) For this particular scrub, I mixed in a handful of dried lavender and a few drops of rosemary essential oil on top of my almond oil. This adds a gentle scent to your scrub.

5.) Hop in the shower (or bath!), take a generous handful of the scrub, and exfoliate away!
