Carleton journalism graduate Natalie Stechyson has won the 2012 Michelle Lang Fellowship from Postmedia Network.

The Michelle Lang Fellowship offers journalists the opportunity to work in a professional reporting environment, providing them with the time and resources to pursue a story they feel passionate about. It is named in honour of the Calgary Herald journalist who was killed while on assignment in Afghanistan.

Since her time at Carleton, Stechyson has gone on to work with the Globe and Mail, New Brunswick’s Telegraph-Journal, and Postmedia. Now she will also be working with the Calgary Herald.

With the fellowship, Stechyson will be pursuing a story of her own interest, and said she’s interested in the Canadian health-care system, specifically fertility issues.

Stechyson said it is a great honour to have been awarded the fellowship, and is proud to be able to honour the memory and legacy of Michelle Lang.
