Building up the Fall Down Gallery

Between DJ sets, skateboarding, and local art shows, the Fall Down Gallery is establishing itself as the swiss army knife of the Ottawa gallery scene.

Perched in the hustle and bustle of Bank Street, the gallery, which opened in May, has become a nest for up and coming Ottawa artists.

Owner Robbie Lariviere said he envisioned the space as a place for artists in the Ottawa scene that didn’t have the resources to put on a show otherwise.

Protest the Hero gets personal

With lead vocalist Rody Walker taking over lyric writing, Protest the Hero’s newest album, Scurrilous, focuses a lot more on reality, Walker said.

Walker said he suggested taking over the lyrics from bassist Arif Mirabdolbaghi because of his need to express more personal stories that he wanted “to get out on paper.”

“Some words I sketched out because I hardly said them,” Walker said.

Capturing intimacy, not sexuality

Just a few blocks down from the activity in the ByWard Market, La Petite Mort Gallery bustled as photographer João Canziani premiered his newest photo series Sept. 9.

The photographs in “Canadian Café Bar” feature pin-up style portraits of women employed at the Canadian Café Bar in Lima, Peru.

Reclaiming the Glebe Streets

Ottawa families, musicians, skaters and artists alike took to the streets throughout the Glebe, despite construction, Sept. 9-10.

Glebe Streets, in its third year running in Ottawa, rocked the dusty and desolate Bank Street from Glebe straight to Fifth Avenue during the two-day event. It boasted skateboarding and BMX rail and trick competitions, live concerts of varying musical genres, spoken word, games and activities of all kinds.

Concert Review: Keith Urban

Australian country singer Keith Urban managed to “get closer” as he moved through the crowd and created an intimate atmosphere during his stop at Scotiabank Place Sept. 9.
