Carleton students elected new student government executives this spring for the Carleton University Students’ Association (CUSA), Rideau River Residence Association (RRRA), Carleton Academic Student Government (CASG) and the Graduate Students’ Association (GSA). 

Meet your student government executives for the 2023/2024 academic year.

CUSA

The CUSA council elected four new vice-presidents for the 2023/24 academic year and re-opened nominations for its vice-president (finance) in the second part of its annual general meeting on March 12.

Logan Breen, a third-year political science and economics student, was elected as the new vice-president (internal) with 29 votes out of 35. 

Emilia De Jesus Peixoto, a third-year law student, was elected as the new vice-president (student issues) out of six candidates with 19 votes in the final round.

Eman Elnaidany, a fourth-year economics and political science student, was elected as the new vice-president (student life) with 23 votes.

Patrick Ene, a sixth-year computer science student was elected as the new vice-president (community engagement) with 31 votes. As the only candidate for this position, Ene won a vote of confidence.

Third-year finance and economics student Sean Joe Ezigbo was hired as vice-president (finance) and secretary treasurer on April 13 during the third part of CUSA’s annual general meeting. 

RRRA

On March 24, the RRRA announced  the winning candidates from its annual executive election.

Kamran Azizli, a criminology student with a concentration in law going into third year, was elected as RRRA president for the 2023/24 school year after earning 80 per cent of the round two votes.

Muhammed “Mo” Maahir, a software engineering student going into third year, was elected the RRRA vice-president (administration) after winning nearly 63 per cent of the votes in the final round of voting.

Keana Cavaro, a law student going into fourth year, won the position of vice-president (programming) after amassing 61.4 per cent of the round two votes.

CASG

CASG announced its executive election results on April 5. 

Francesca Lepore, a global and international studies student going into fourth year and former CASG vice-president (operations), was elected president with 33 votes. 

Nora Draper, a fourth-year public affairs and policy management student, was elected vice-president (academic) with 27 votes. 

Allan Buri, a second-year public affairs and policy management student, was elected vice-president (internal) with 30 votes.

Fourth-year global and international studies student Christopher Pratt was elected vice-president (operations) with 29 votes. Pratt was the only candidate running for this position. 

GSA

The GSA issued its executive election results on March 29. 

Elie Abou Zeid was elected president with 515 votes. 

Roozer Samuvel Natterjee was elected vice-president (external) with 514 votes.

Reza Sohrabi was elected vice-president (finance) with 548 votes.

Sahil Rajput was elected vice-president (academic) with 360 votes.

Parissa Askarian was elected vice-president (operations) with 345 votes. 

Zeid, Natterjee and Sohrabi were the only candidates running for their positions.
