Campus Style is back this semester with students from across the Carleton campus ready to combat the cold weather with warm and innovative outfits. As students move indoors, the Campus Style team followed and observed as students refreshed their wardrobes for the upcoming chilling winter and the new year.

Style tip of the week: Spray your suede shoes and coat your leather boots with protecting solution to avoid snow stains and permanent dirt damage.

What are your style resolutions for 2013?
I love including animal prints and a lot of prints in general, that’s what I’m into lately. Scarves as well, because it’s winter now, and lots of dresses. I bought a lot of dresses when I was back home — I live in Saudi Arabia. I did a lot of shopping this winter break, mostly from Zara and Topshop. I’m so into dresses lately.

What are tips for students trying to survive the winter fashionably?
Layers. I love layering clothes, like putting on a sweater and a jacket over that. I always dress for comfort. I don’t like dressing up and not being able to sit in what I’m wearing.

If you had to think of style resolutions for 2013, what would they be?
Maybe not care as much, try different things. I would care less about what other people think — things being too feminine or too masculine, or too weird or plain. If you look at five years ago, no one would wear skinny straight-legged jeans and now when you look around here most guys are wearing jeans like that. When I started wearing them, it wasn’t considered “normal.”

What tips do you have for students trying to stay warm and fashionable at the same time?
This cardigan for example. It’s wool and super warm, my shirt isn’t even long-sleeved and it’s fine to wear just under my coat. Don’t be afraid to mess up your hair when you’re wearing a toque, having cold ears is the worst. Finding good shoes, especially in the climate here, it can be so bad having frozen toes waiting for the bus.

What are your fashion resolutions for the year of 2013?
I’m finding I love sweaters a lot more. I used to wear a vest a lot, but I’m liking the sweaters especially with the cold weather. Knitted sweaters are the best.

If you had tips for students trying to stay warm and fashionable, what would they be?
I think you should choose warmth over fashion. Serving the purpose is better than looking your best, especially at times like this. But hey, if you can look good while staying warm, all the power to you.
