Blue Angel is a three-piece consisting of Caylie Runciman, Sam Secord, and Lidija Rozitis, who put the band together less than a year ago with goal of musically impregnating anyone who chooses to listen with “spooky, noisy hand bangers.”

All the girls are a part of other bands as well and said Blue Angel is their “fun outlet.”

After  90 minutes of spiralling conversation with two of the three members, Runciman and Secord, while they completed their typical pre-practice ritual of drinking wine and listening to records, they said the band was “originally Caylie’s brain baby” and now they are just “having fun and YOLO-ing.”

Blue Angel said they are proud to have produced music that they and other people like.

The band draws from “the delves and depths of shit and hell” and an eclectic set of sounds including, rock, emo, and screamo to get the very exclusive and cultivated sound they identify as “noise-punk.”

One very distinct trait of a Blue Angel’s concert is the costumes, which the ladies say is their favourite part of performing. They spent the entirety of their first concert with brown paper bags over their heads, which they said was almost a thing but proved to be impractical. They said they love looking out into the crowd and seeing fans rocking out in awesome costumes.

A typical day in the life of Blue Angel consists of “chilling, drinking, jamming out, and maybe writing a song . . . maybe not.”

The band described a successful year as one where they get a “good-sounding record out and win the lottery” but if neither happens they will not be discouraged and continue to make music because it makes them happy.

Rozitis participated in the Girls Rock Camp program that happens every summer in Ottawa. The program teaches young girls to play an instrument and gives them a kick-start to starting their own band. The band said they have played for other charity events and do free concerts for the love of the sound.

Blue Angel wanted to leave all fans and potential fans with the following message: “Be yourself and get ready to be sweaty!”
