When Charlatan columnist Blayne Haggart questioned what makes the inter-
net important on Sept. 29, 1994, his answer was clear. “[It is], simply put, the most incredible
procrastination device since the invention
of Tetris.” As the statement remains uncontested
even decades later, the web has inevitably shaped Carleton University’s history. How-
ever, accessing the internet wasn’t always easy.
Journalists have the opportunity to participate in the first draft of history - an opportunity
that should never be taken lightly.
Articles, photographs and videos produced by those privileged enough to be represented
and have a voice in the media become part of the historical record. Journalism continues to
evolve, and learning from our shared history is essential to resolving present issues.
