Former Algonquin College Students’ Association president-elect Eli El-Chantiry is facing sexual assault charges in relation to an incident that took place April 14, 2013.

The alleged incident took place at Glen House Resort during a students’ association retreat called Changeover Weekend, according to the Algonquin Times.

There is a publication ban on the case El-Chantiry is currently facing.

El-Chantiry has since been removed from his position as president-elect of the students’ association’s board of directors.

“During the summer the Board was advised that one of our directors will no longer be able to serve on the Board,” the students’ association announced on its website Sept. 4.

The announcement was directed at members of the students’ association informing them of changes to the board of directors for the 2013-14 school year.

In accordance with the association’s bylaws, Sherline Pieris, who was previously elected vice-president, was named the new president of the students’ association.

Her former position is being filled by Krisha Stanton.

Pieris declined to say any more about the alleged incident or the changes to the board of directors.

“A statement released on the SA website address all your questions,” she said via email. “I don’t propose to comment any further.”
