The Charlatan spoke to Briana De Souza about her top moment this season in a new segment about student-athletes’ favourite plays.
Briana De Souza, centreback, women’s soccer:
We were playing the [University of Ottawa], and it was our second game against them of the season. In the first game we had actually tied them in the final minutes of the game.
It was just before half time, and the ball I guess kind of splits loose in their end of the field, and so I kind of just picked it up and ran with it.
I found myself close to net, and I went to take a shot—I wasn’t sure if it was a cross or a shot—but it went off the cross bar, and one of the girls, Abby Nicastro, was in the right spot at the right time, and got it in, so it was awesome.
We had never beat Ottawa U, and that was the first game the team has ever beaten them in the history of the program.
I mean I didn’t know we’d end up winning the game, but it was one step closer. I guess it kind of changed the momentum of the game, and got us up on the scoreboard. It was awesome, I was ecstatic.
