Concordia University has created the Jun Lin Family Fund and the Jun Lin Award in honour of late student and alleged victim of accused murderer Luka Magnotta, according to the university’s website.
The announcement came after the university met with the Lin family and teamed up with the Concordia Chinese Student Association (CCSA).
The fund will give financial assistance to the victim’s family while the award will benefit other Chinese students studying at Concordia, the press release said.
Body parts that were found stuffed in a suitcase in a Montreal alley May 29 and mailed to two political parties and two Vancouver schools have all been identified as belonging to Lin.
Lin’s family said they are grateful and moved by the sympathy they have received over this tragedy.
“It is our wish to take this opportunity to turn a devastating situation into something positive that brings the goodness and peace back to society,” the Lin family said in a press release.
Gifts and donations to either the fund or award can be made to the school through various means.
