Members of the One Residence slate won all three executive positions on the Rideau River Residence Association (RRRA), according to unofficial results released by the elections office.
Voting took place virtually on March 21 and March 22.
Gialina Jiang was elected president of RRRA. McKayla Wolfer will serve as the association’s vice president (administration) and Sanjeevan Kirubaharan will be vice president (programming). All members of the One Residence slate will serve from May 1 until April 31, 2023.
Although the presidential election used a ranked ballot system, Jiang received 71.5 per cent of students’ votes during the first round of voting, so only one round was necessary.
Jiang has been serving as the association’s vice president (programming) this academic year. At the RRRA all-candidates’ debate, Jiang said she would prevent sexual violence by advocating for more security cameras in the tunnels and by putting sign-in sheets on every residence floor.
At the debate, Wolfer said she plans to merge RRRA with the Carleton University Students’ Association (CUSA). She added she also plans on getting VIA rail discounts for residence students.
Kirubaharan said he wanted to hold more inclusive events, such as programming for racialized people.
Out of 2,616 eligible voters, 837 responded for a response rate of 32 per cent. Voter participation more than doubled compared to last year’s RRRA election, which saw only 407 ballots cast.
