As the Carleton University Students’ Association wraps up its 2026-2027 general election, 13 members have been elected to its 32-seat council.
Because only 13 students won in the election and 19 seats remain empty, there will be a by-election in the fall to fill the empty seats.
The election results were announced last Friday, and council members officially took their positions at the association’s first annual members’ meeting on Monday.
Voter turnout for this year’s general election reached 9.4 per cent, falling from last year’s general election turnout of 21.3 per cent.
This also marks the lowest turnout in more than a decade, according to a Charlatan analysis of past election results.
The second-lowest turnout in that period was 13.1 per cent in the 2022 election, and the highest in that period was 37.2 per cent in 2017.
Here are the CUSA councillors for the 2026-2027 year:
Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences
Students in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences elected one candidate with a 7.3 per cent voter turnout. This faculty is given seven seats on the CUSA council, so six seats will remain empty unless they are filled in the fall by-election.
The elected councillor is Jade Proulx, who is in the childhood and youth studies program.
Faculty of Engineering and Design
Engineering and design students elected four students with an 11 per cent voter turnout.
The faculty is given eight seats, so four will remain empty until the results of the fall by-election.
The elected councillors are:
- Ngan Cao, a fourth-year information technology student
- Adrianna King, an industrial design student
- Rushelle Verma, a first-year architectural engineering student
- Eamon Lekovic, a sustainable and renewable energy engineering student
Faculty of Science
Students in the Faculty of Science elected one council member with a 9.5 per cent voter turnout. The faculty is given seven seats, so six will remain empty unless they are filled in the fall by-election.
The elected councillor is Shann Pandya, a second-year computer science student.
Sprott School of Business
Sprott students elected one candidate with a 6.5 per cent voter turnout. The school has three allotted seats, meaning two seats will remain empty unless they are filled in the fall by-election.
The elected councillor is Nolan Giroux-Laplante, a second-year commerce student.
Faculty of Public and Global Affairs
Students in the Faculty of Public and Global Affairs elected six representatives with an 11.6 per cent voter turnout. The election filled all six council seats allotted to the faculty.
The elected councillors are:
- Hanna Abdalla, a first-year global and international studies student
- Maya Briggs, a second-year economics and political science student
- Aditri Janapatla*, a second-year journalism and political science student
- Lynn-Nancy Okafor, a third-year criminology student
- Kaylie Precepa, a second-year political science student
