From battlefields to classrooms
A new veterans’ learning benefit would fund post-secondary education or technical training for war veterans if a Liberal government were elected, Liberal leader Michael Ignatieff announced April 4.
With an investment of $120 million over two years, the veterans’ learning benefit would provide full funding for tuition, books, housing and living expenses for up to four years of education or training, according to a Liberal press release.
Liberals promise more bursaries
Liberal leader Michael Ignatieff has proposed $1 billion in financial grants to high school students who plan to go to post-secondary institutions.
The program, named the Canadian Learning Passport, “will be a powerful tool for reducing barriers to attending college and university, and increasing the flow of highly skilled workers into the Canadian economy,” Ignatieff announced March 29. “The message we will give to every one of our kids is, ‘If you have the grades, you get to go.’”
Ontario budget gets mixed reviews
The 2011 release of the Ontario Budget by the McGuinty government is getting mixed reactions from students and faculty in the province.
According to a press release from the Canadian Federation of Students-Ontario (CFS-O), the new budget dedicates $309 million to expand enrolment by 60,000 new students by 2015.
