Students still demanding sexual assault centre after lawsuit resolved

More than 30 Carleton students and supporters rallied on Aug. 17 demanding the creation of a sexual assault centre on campus and condemning the university’s defence in a recent sexual assault lawsuit, even though a settlement in the highly-publicized lawsuit had been reached a few days earlier.
 
Julie Lalonde, the demonstration’s organizer and co-founder of the Coalition for a Carleton Sexual Assault Centre, said she learned of the settlement on Aug. 14 but maintained that the case was just a catalyst for the event so she did not cancel it.

Kyereh-Addo seeking Conservative party MP nomination

Twenty-three-year-old Carleton grad Bruce Kyereh-Addo is seeking the Conservative party MP nomination in Ottawa-Centre.


Kyereh-Addo became a well-known figure at Carleton after his controversial disqualification as Carleton University Students’ Association (CUSA) president during the 2009 CUSA elections.

Student Rights and Responsibilities policy updated

The department of student affairs has updated the two-year-old Student Rights and Responsibilities (SRR) policy to reflect issues more current to the Carleton community, according to the department.

Sociology department condemns administration actions

After an ad hoc meeting debating the dismissal of accused terrorist Hassan Diab, Carleton University’s department of sociology and anthropology issued a four-point resolution condemning the actions of the school’s administration and ordering the reinstatement of the sociology professor, according to department chair Peter Gose.

The department also has grave concerns about the administration’s potential violation of the union agreement and school regulations, Gose said.
