I was talking about sports with a first-year student at Carleton this past week who said he was more than shocked to learn that our school lacks a varsity football team. It's not a new reaction - or even a new topic of conversation - so it wasn't until I mentioned baseball that I got a response that compelled me to set the record straight: "Carleton has a baseball team?"

I've gotten this same response numerous times and had to confirm.

“Being an immigrant is hard,” said a family friend to me a few days ago. She has just moved to Europe for her retirement and is quickly realizing, as I am, that we are not in Kansas anymore. Everything is just different enough to realize that this isn’t quite home — yet — as much as we want it to be.

Inglorious Basterds and District 9 are both high-grossing action movies, but if given the choice as to which one should you shell out the 12 bucks for, don’t waste your money on District 9.
