Learning to prevent an economic crisis

Getting a post-secondary education is seen by many as a good idea and, as we reach the one year anniversary of the economic collapse, the shrinking work force makes this idea look even better. At the moment, many businesses are restructuring and not rehiring. Many industries are focusing on implementing risk management and making companies financially transparent to shareholders.

York University has noticed this trend and has initiated a new graduate degree inspired by the credit crisis – the master of financial accountability (MFAc).

UOIT students oppose ‘double policing’

Committees at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology and Durham College are reviewing the institutions’ codes of conduct and considering extending these codes to student behaviour off-campus. If the code of conduct were to apply to off-campus behaviour, issues such as vandalism, littering and noisy parties could be dealt with by the university with punishments such as community service and loss of university privileges.

However, many students at these schools do not agree with the idea of double-policing.
