The Carleton women’s varsity water polo team struck gold while the men’s clasped silver Nov. 29 in the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) championships.

Both teams faced last year’s champs, the University of Toronto, in the finals.

With last year’s defeat in the finals as incentive, the Raven ladies swam hard, knocking off Queen’s University in the semifinal by a score of 20 – 2.

Well when it comes to Bluessmyth, quite a lot.

“It’s like a blacksmith forging metals into art or creating different styles of music,” explained the band’s lead singer and lead guitarist Chris Yaholkoski.

But contrary to obvious interpretation of the name, Yaholkoski said he wants to be clear.

“We’re not genre specific. Obviously with the name Bluessmyth people think we’re a blues band, but we’re nowhere near a traditional blues band.”

While the Christmas season is associated with lots of food, too many people are still in need, especially during the recession.

But the some local musicians are trying to change that.

On Nov. 25, the fifth annual Feed the Homeless benefit concert was held at Zaphod Beeblebrox.

It featured performances by Arms of a Girl, Huntley Slim, Jill Zmud, DJ’s Kerri and Arun.
