The Department of University Safety extends wishes for a joyous holiday season to all members of the Carleton Community. For those spending time on campus over the holidays, DUS officers would like to remind you that they are available 24/7, 365 days a year for emergency response, law enforcement and general assistance. 

The Carleton women’s basketball team couldn’t have ended 2009 at a better time, or worse. The lady Ravens finished on a high note with a four-game winning streak but are now going into the long winter break, and will have to try and keep the momentum for when they return in 2010.

“It’s a good time to rest mentally,” said head coach Taffe Charles. “But we’re still working out to be physically strong.”

With the final goals being scored, last-second touchdowns being thrown and game-winning baskets bring made, celebrations ensued as Carleton crowned its intramural champions this past week, capping off a successful fall 2009 campaign.

Whether students were looking for intense competition or simply some recreational activity, 10 different sports offered both grizzled veterans and first-time participants the opportunity to enjoy a wide range of choices.

After a dominating 8-0 victory over the Queen’s University Gaels the night before, Carleton’s men’s hockey team followed up that performance with a gritty come from behind 3-2 victory over the Université de Québec à Trois-Rivères Patriotes (UQTR) Dec 5.

Entering the winter break with a 7-1 record, most people would assume the Carleton varsity men’s basketball team would get some well-deserved rest and relaxation over the holidays.

Rest and relaxation didn’t win the Ravens last year’s national championship.

In what has become a tradition during Dave Smart’s head coach years, the active roster flies to Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. to take part in intense physical training, and to re-energize and shake off holiday rust before the team’s first game after the break.
