The same week Colorado State University voted to ban concealed firearms on campus, students at the University of Colorado found their school taking gun rights to a whole new level. Notices appeared warning students that Nerf-gun sightings will be treated like real-gun sightings, according to a statement issued by Joe E. Roy, chief of police at the University of Colorado Police Department.

This came as a result of campus security officials discovering that the colourful toys would be used for an upcoming game of humans vs. zombies.

With members of two opposing slates in the same office, the executives of Carleton University Students’ Association (CUSA) have mixed responses about their achievements so far this year.

CUSA president Erik Halliwell said one of the executives’ biggest achievements was to remove the age cap on student bus passes. Last year, OC Transpo changed its policy to only allowed students who were 27 and under to buy bus passes at student prices, but CUSA lobbied for the successful reversal of that decision.

The Rideau River Residence Association (RRRA) executive have been able to fulfill all but one of its 2009 election campaign goals for the academic year, according to RRRA vice-president (administration) Garima Talwar.

The executive, also comprised of Christopher Infantry as president and Jonathan Dawe as vice-president (programming), sought to lower costs at Abstentions, expand the bike share program, shorten line-ups at Oasis, create new events on campus and to increase the amount of bursary money available to students.

Carleton’s supportive student services are keeping undergraduate registration levels for 2010 on par with 2009 levels, which spiked 7 per cent from the previous year, according to associate vice-president (enrolment management) Suzanne Blanchard.
