The Ravens women’s soccer team entered the season with efforts to build for the future. With only one senior on their side, the team played to an OUA record of 6-6-2. Although they were not expected to have any championship success, the women Ravens showed that they will have what it takes to compete next season.

The team’s 18 goals ranked in the bottom half of the OUA and low on a national scale as well. To add to that low number, five of those goals were scored in one game. But the future looks bright as second-year midfielder, Amanda Ngwafusi, led the team with five goals.

Although not stellar, Carleton’s defense was certainly strong enough to keep the team in some games. Led by fourth-year players Jaclyn Penner and Emily Watt, the Ravens defence gave opponents a tough time. The team only had one bump along the way, a 4-0 loss to the University of Toronto.

The Carleton side is very fortunate to have excellent first-year keepers. Erin Klimas had four wins and four shutouts this season, and Tanya Marshall proved steady in the playoffs as she only allowed two goals in three games played.

Despite their mediocre record, this team can leave fans excited for next season. The group of youngsters caused damage in the OUA post-season after upsetting powerhouse U of T and losing in double-overtime to the Brock University Badgers in a match that would have given the Ravens an entry to the national championships.
