Aliza Virani said she believes students deserve a voice, and that she has the qualifications, experience and dedication to be that voice. The third-year communications and psychology major is running for vice-president (student life) with the "A Better Deal" slate, and said she is eager to make things bigger and better.

Virani said she thinks CUSA has the funding and resources but lacks good negotiators.

“I am a good negotiator,” she said.

With five years of experience planning events both on campus and nationwide, Virani said she thinks she’s the right person for the job.

As vice president (student life), she said she would establish a Carleton homecoming to bring students and alumni together. Virani also said she would also put more funding into Red Zone. “I’m a big advocate of students supporting students – that, and fun, is what student life is about,” she said.

CUSA executives earn about $28,000 annually in salary. One of the first things Virani’s slate promises to do is make cuts in executive salaries, she said. Virani said she wants to put that money back into students’ pockets.

“It’s going to mean twice the funding for clubs and societies,” she said.
