Emile Scheffel is a third-year political science student running for vice-president (internal) with the slate, “A Better Deal.”

“Carleton students deserve a better deal from CUSA,” Scheffel said. He said he understands students pay a lot of money in CUSA fees, and he is interested in ensuring their money is well spent.

If elected, Scheffel said his first move would involve a cut in his own salary and the salaries of the other executives, he said.

“We want to put that money into eliminating ATM fees at all CUSA-owned ATMs,” he said.

Scheffel said he will be focusing on doubling funding for clubs and societies and creating more transparency in the funding process. Scheffel said he will also lobby to increase the amount of money a club can receive in order to organize better events for their members.

Scheffel also said he would aim to reduce student expenditures by reducing textbook prices at Haven Books and increasing availability. He also said he hopes to introduce a Reading Week in the fall semester.

Scheffel said he has been involved in several Carleton clubs and societies. Most recently, he served as the registration coach for the Carleton Relay for Life. He has also been the council chair for two years in the Carleton Academic Student Government.

“I feel like I am very familiar with the needs of clubs and societies and also very familiar with what it takes to run a council,” Scheffel said.
