Fourth-year law student and incumbent CUSA vice-president (finance)  Meera Chander will seek re-election on the “United Carleton” slate.

Chander brings a year of experience dealing with the student association's budget, which has only increased since last semester.

“I’m running again because having already been the VP of finance of CUSA, it opens the door for me to do a lot more if I were to be re-elected. I love fighting for the student movement. Student issues are huge for me,” Chander said.

Among platform issues, Chander plans to make Haven Books more accessible to students with disabilities, provide Halal options at Oliver’s and Rooster’s, open orientation week to all students and advocate for a sexual assault support centre on campus. In addition, Chander plans to increase funding for the university’s various clubs and societies, although she said she does not have a definite plan as to where the funding will come from.

“We’re looking at CUSA’s contingency fund as a potential option, which is sort of like CUSA’s ‘rainy day’ fund,” Chander said.

“Being VP finance for CUSA isn’t just about being VP finance. It’s about being able to cater to the needs of students, whether that’s the needs of students in regards to their faith, as in bringing Halal options into Rooster’s, of whether that is making Haven Books accessible to students with disabilities. Yes, it’s all finance, but these are all student issues that have to be dealt with by the finances,” Chander said.
