As a fourth-year accounting student, Katie Pagnello said she plans to bring a “strong passion for accounting and finance” to the table as she sets her sights on the vice-president (finance) position on the “A Better Deal” slate.

A former intern for the Children’s Aid Society and Procter and Gamble, Pagnello has experience in both the non-profit and commercial areas of finance and accounting.

Pagnello also brings with her a long résumé of business leadership experience including being vice-president of the Sprott Business Student Society, president of the War Child Carleton chapter, and a teaching assistant for the accounting department.

“I feel like I’m able to draw from all those experiences,” Pagnello said.

As part of her platform, Pagnello said she wants to provide concrete business plans for all four of CUSA’s businesses in order to improve them.

“These businesses already have budgets, but a solid business plan doesn’t just plan for financial things, but also for marketing and operations management. These businesses are amazing as they are, but they have even more potential,” Pagnello said.

In addition, Pagnello said she plans to make CUSA finances transparent, making sure they are online and in real-time. She is also proposing executive salary cuts, as well as plans to tighten control of executive spending — money which will then be reinvested into the pockets of students through societies and clubs.

“I’m really in it for the students. I really want to make a positive difference in their university experience, as past leaders have done for me,” Pagnello said.
